If you’re looking for more flexibility than the structured OKC lessons then the Freetalk option may be for you! This is also mostly young adults who are looking to practice their English and discuss topics of interest like sports, music, travel etc. The material you teach and cover in Freetalk lessons is totally up to you and the particular student.

Not only is Palfish an awesome teaching/learning app, it’s also built like a social media platform and the way the Pal fish algorithm works is the more you post then the more visible you are. This is usually done via a function called “moments” where you create live videos, post images with text, or use the Pal fish reading app to students interested in learning with you.
How Much Money can I make on Palfish?
The minimum rate on Pal fish is 1.5 rmb a minute, but starting out I would recommend staying below the 2 rmb mark. My first month I was only charging 1.7rmb or about $15 an hour until I was building up students, experiene and reviews. Like most things in life, if you try and charge or ask too much before you’re even able to show that you deserve it, then you’re not likely to be very successful.

Pros and Cons of Palfish
The Pal fish curriculum and course are well structured and fun for both the teachers and the students. I was initially worried about the learning curve and level of difficulty teaching remotely, but after a few classes, I lost the jitters and really started getting into it! This in turns makes for a more positive and productive learning experience for the kids.
Although you can definitely teach the lessons verbatim, they’re also fairly open to interpretation for you to expand or explore new ideas to teach that are relevant to the given lesson. From singing songs, drawing on the screen, playing games and even augmented reality filters, the courses have you covered.
Without a doubt, there is a large growing community on Palfish of experienced teachers willing to help answer questions and help you be successful. Once you get accepted they will automatically join you to some of the top chat groups for FAQs and Support.
The one-on-one teaching environment is ideal for me to be able to focus all my attention and efforts on just one person, so I see this as a strongpoint versus the overcrowded classes you may have physically taught in most public schools.
As an OKC teacher, you are paid on a point system where you start at level one earning 55 rmb for a 25-minute class. The points are checked monthly and you will either be promoted or demoted based on your performance. There are 5 levels with increasing bonuses at each level with a max earning potential of 75 rmb for a 25-minute class.
Having complete control of your weekly schedule and being able to select the specific days and times you want to teach is incredible. I was looking for an extra 10-15 hours of work a week outside of my primary remote work and this has fit in perfectly!
Sometimes it can take a while for an Admin to get back to you and you’re much more likely to get a speedy response using one of the chat groups they add you to after being accepted. This can prove to be frustrating sometimes if you were charged for missing a class or other issues which may be out of your control.
I personally haven’t experienced any serious app issues outside of touch screen alignment moving objects around sometimes and things like that. If there is a big problem, the IT team tries to get to it asap but if it negatively affected your lesson then there’s likely little they can do.
Although the Palfish Social Algorithm is supposed to be a good thing, and it is, it can also be negative. If you’re an introverted person who hates social media and posting things then you’re not likely to benefit from the algorithm. This can, in turn, be detrimental to teachers who may be super qualified and experienced but are maybe just shy about posting online.
