Phuket Scuba Diving in Andaman Sea
If you’re planning on visiting Phuket then there are some great locations you should consider diving at just off the coast. Scuba diving in the Andaman Sea is a great idea for anyone looking to dive for their first times or more advanced divers alike. Some of the most famous dive spots are an easy 1.5-hour boat trip away and offer a variety of seascapes and marine life. Depending on the location and depth, you can expect to see all kinds of interesting aquatic animals and underwater phenomena.
With clear warm waters, colorful tropical fish and corals it should come as no surprise that Thailand is a top diving destination worldwide. Stunning islands surrounded by incredible picturesque waters combined with a variety of wildlife make for some high-quality diving. The Andaman Sea is one of the most popular areas for diving due to the number of excellent locations to visit for your next adventure.
Due to the amazing weather and depending on the season, you can usually plan on diving in Thailand all year round. November to April tend to be the best times of the year which is after Monsoon season. During February to April you can even expect to see some whale sharks and manta rays. You can also dive during monsoon season but some places become inaccessible and it can also make for rougher waters.
Where to go Diving in the Andaman
Thailand is blessed with amazing weather, gorgeous beaches, and fantastic diving just a short distance from its many fun-packed shorelines. In the Southwestern point outside of Phuket are 3 of the best dive spots recommended by many locals and experienced ex-pats. Phuket may be popular for its resorts and parties but it’s also the best location to reach some of the top local dives sites.
Similan Islands
The Similan Islands are made up 9 granite islands, covered in jungle, with fine beaches washed with crystal clear waters. These islands are considered the most diverse and beautiful dive locations in all of Thailand. Just outside of Phang Nga and about 100 km North of Phuket in the Andaman Sea, the superb underwater scenery and excellent visibility provide an unparalleled scuba experience. From vibrant reefs to large and dramatic rock formations, these are a top recommended dive spot. Plan on seeing swarms off fish and fantastic seasbeds with soft colorful corals throughout.
Phi Phi Islands
Phi Phi’s magic draws sunseekers and travelers for the beaches and a slice of island-life but it’s also an incredible place to go diving. The two main islands are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh and sit in magnificent emerald waters the likes to be seen in the movie The Beach. Widely considered as one of the most picturesque places in the world, it ranks among the top 5 best places to dive in Thailand. The combination of limestone cliffs, colorful corals, and schools of fish make the Phi Phi Islands an incredibly popular destination year after year.
The King Cruiser Wreck
The King Cruiser Wreck is one of the best wreckage dive spots in all of Asia. This artificial reef is the result of the ship hitting an anemone reef rock back in 1997 where it slowly sank while all the passengers and crew escaped. Now it’s home to thousands of fish and other aquatic wildlife, but this site can only be explored by advanced divers.
With unbeatable access to asome of the best diving spots in Thailand, fascinating underwater seascapes, and legendary topside attractions, Phuket remains very popular for both scuba diving and party tourists alike.
