Secret Underwater Buddha Garden in Bali

Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan Islands

So I’ve been traveling around Asia for 8 months now, been to Bali already once and in all my travels have not come across a place so amazing and so “OMG I HAVE TO GO THERE!” So on this second visit, I made it a priority to 1) find this place, and 2) go there by any means necessary! Honestly, the title of the blog is a little misleading because the underwater Buddha garden isn’t actually located in Bali, its located in the bay between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan Islands. I have created a map of the location below from where we stayed.

Honestly, the title of the blog is a little misleading because the underwater Buddha garden isn’t actually located in Bali, its located in the bay between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan Islands at the end of the Ceningan Straight. If you ask most people on Bali don’t know about this place and neither did the hotel staff on Lembongan! So I did all the exploring for you and have created a map of the location below starting from where we stayed.

So I just want to take a second and not only recommend an amazing place to stay but also to give props to the Sunrise Huts Lembongan! This place has hands down the best view of the Ceningan straight and bay where the underwater Buddha garden is located. The food, wifi, service, facilities, pool and view were all excellent! I was very happy with my stay here and highly recommend it.

So the roads here are really bad, but just like anywhere in Asia, the best way to get around is by motorbike. If you’re going to rent one at the pier you can plan on paying 200,000 Rupiah, bc that’s the price they charge Bulle (foreigners/tourists) on the island, but if you rent with your hotel like we did you will only pay 80,000, on Bali my friend got me a monthly rental for only 350,000!

So, once you have your motorbike, take the roads across the big yellow bridge which connects you to Nusa Ceningan from Nusa Lembongan Island. After crossing the bridge take a left and follow the road a couple kilometer until you see a small shop and tattoo shop on the left-hand side if you’ve made it to the pier where there are a ton of dudes waiting to solicit you then you have gone too far. This guys operates out of the back of his house where this beautiful handmade boat he built with his brother sits. There is also a small snorkeling tour poster up as well so don’t miss it.

This guy took the 4 of us out to 3 spots, the Underwater Buddha Garden, then the Mangroves and finally the Cliff Wall. There is excellent snorkeling at the Mangrove. This guy is so nice and is only around 4 months of the year because the rest of the time he is working on an international cruise line, however, his brother will most likely take you too. He only charged 150,000 for over an hour, 3 locations including snorkels and masks! Can’t beat that, so definitely bring this guy your business if you plan on making this trip, his approximate location is marked on the map.
